📸 Dan Griggs – “Cutting Board”
12” x 16” | Original Oil on Panel | Framed
A master of psychological still life, Dan Griggs brings quiet drama to the everyday in this richly detailed composition. Cutting Board captures a moment of culinary pause—mushrooms, radishes, tomato, and cabbage gathered on a wooden board, flanked by a gleaming metal pitcher and a glass of wine. The textures are rendered with exquisite realism, yet the mood hints at something deeper: harmony, mystery, and the quiet tension of preparation.
🎨 About the Artist
Dan Griggs has exhibited nationally since the 1970s, with shows in New York, Santa Fe, Palm Springs, and beyond. Trained under Siegfried Hahn and Howard Wexler in Albuquerque, Griggs paints exclusively from life—whether working with models or composing still lifes. His process begins with a meticulous selection of objects, chosen for their visual and emotional resonance. He then translates the three-dimensional scene into a two-dimensional painting, striving for tonal richness and psychological depth.
Griggs draws inspiration from the old masters and post-impressionists, aiming to evoke both beauty and ambiguity. As he puts it:
“Wherever I rest my gaze, I want to find something that delights me… beauty, harmony, and maybe a little mystery.”
